Former teacher jailed for cheating woman over non-existent job

SIBU: A former teacher was sentenced to two years’ jail by the Sessions Court here yesterday for deceiving a woman into making payment for a non- existent government job.

Febian Siges, 52, pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 420 of the Penal Code which was read and explained to him through an interprete­r.

The charge carries a jail term of between one and 10 years, whipping and a fine.

The offence took place at a bank in Kapit at 10.24am on Oct 30 last year when he cheated a 21-yearold woman by convincing her to deposit RM550 into his bank account, purportedl­y as payment for him to secure her a job in the civil service.

It is learnt that Febian has a string of previous conviction­s for cheating.

In a separate case yesterday, a 26-year- old man was jailed for eight months by a magistrate’s court here for fraudulent­ly helping to conceal a sum of RM44,200 belonging to another person in his personal bank account.

Mohd Shafirul Razali pleaded guilty to a charge framed under Section 424 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to five years, fine or both.

The offence was committed at a banking institutio­n in Jalan Kampung Dato here, between 12.57pm and 1.22pm on Aug 14, 2018.
