Vital to inculcate soft skills in students, says Lubok Antu MP

MIRI: Inculcating soft skills in students is crucial in producing quality and competitive human capital.

Lubok Antu MP Jugah Muyang said this at the closing of Universiti Malaysia Sarawak ( Unimas)’s credited co- curriculum programme with Rumah Nudong Murat in Ulu Skrang yesterday.

He said the students should adopt positive attitude, enthusiasm, high intelligence and good ethics, and also be able to become wise thinkers and problem-solvers.

“This is vital in producing holistic students from all aspects.

“This can be seen clearly through the efforts of the participants; upon first setting foot at a longhouse in Sarawak, they could adapt to their host’s way of life, in addition to respecting the customs and culture of the local community,” he said.

Jugah also thanked all parties involved directly or indirectly in the event, which introduced longhouse residents to two subcore subjects offered in Unimas’ Co- Curricular and Soft Skills Department – namely ‘ Basic Frozen Food Preparation’ and ‘ Seni Andaman’ ( Bridal Arts) courses.

“I hope that such programme would be continued to expose and motivate rural youths and students to study harder, emulating the Unimas undergraduates pursuing their tertiary education,” he added.

Later at the event, Jugah announced the allocation of 40 solar panels and also a RM55,000 grant for Rumah Nudong Murat security and development committee (JKKK) for its future activities.
