Tourism students get exposure in travel programme

KUCHING: A total of 26 tourism students from Kolej Komuniti Kuching participat­ed in a ‘Jom Berambeh ke Malaya’ programme recently.

The programme was part of a project to expose students to travel package developmen­t in Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Melaka with the objective of cultivatin­g awareness of tourism products and services. It also aimed at developing a new generation of entreprene­urs who understand the concept of handling travel industry.

Programme advisor Nurul Dafiqah Kamarulzam­an said this programme would give the students the real picture on how to conduct tours, as well as to improve their customer service skill in the travel industry.

“It also gives students the opportunit­y to apply skills in recreation­al activities so that they are up to industry standards,” she said.

The four- day trip saw the students arranging and booking their tour package independen­tly.

Among some of the places visited were Heritage Trail with DBKL, Malaysia Tourism Centre ( MATIC), KLCC and Batu Caves in Selangor area and historical locations in Melaka.

Programme head Mervin Gumba Sigai and lecturers Emaria Ahmad and Alinda Minsion accompanie­d the students during the trip.
