ITF Sarawak exponents win first international title
KUCHING: I TF Sarawak grabbed 18 gold, 13 silver and 13 bronze medals to emerge as overall champion in the 1st Asia Pacific Schools IT FT aek won do Championship which ended at the Management Science University ( MSU), Shah Alam last week.
It was a proud and historic breakthrough for ITF Sarawak as this was their first ever international title.
They sent 31 participants from all schools in Kuching together with 10 umpires for the inaugural event.
The team was led by team manager Regina Ho and coaches headed by Jeremy Lo.
The athletes underwent months of preparat ion and f itness training under Nurasiman Simon from the Sarawak Sports Council ( MSNS).
According to Ho, i t was challenging for the participants who had to juggle between training and school including examinations.
The championship, which was organised by ITF Selangor and ITF Malaysia ( ITFM), was also supported by Ministry of Education, Ministry of Youth and Sport as well as Ministry of Tourism Malaysia.
It was an inaugural event for the Asia Paci f ic region catering for school students aged 9 to 18. A total of 10 countries including China, India, Uzbekistan, Singapore, Bangladesh, Nepal and the Philippines took part.
Meanwhi le, ITF Malaysia was accredited by the Malaysia Book of Records for organising a taekwondo tournament which turned out to attract the most participants ( 1,700).
