Esther, Morgan champs of ‘Solo Irama Malaysia’ singing contest

SIBU: Esther Elisya Mau Saong made her school, SMK Luar Bandar, proud when she was announced champion of the ‘Solo Irama Malaysia’ singing contest’ (female category) at the ‘ Sibu District-level contest, held at SMK Sacred Heart here, yesterday.

Esther was also adjudged winner in the Best Presentati­on category of the contest.

In second place was Agnes Ling from SMK Bandar Sibu while Nur Izzah Razliana Rajli from SMK Kampung Nangka came in third.

In the male category of the contest, the champion was Morgan Qua from SMK Sibu Jaya, while in second place was Morrison Mancha Liang from SMK Luar Bandar and in third place Cyprian Dwayne Rayun from SMK Durin.

The contest is aimed at selecting Sibu representa­tives to the statelevel secondary school solo ‘Irama Malaysia’ singing contest and Live Band competitio­n to be held in Bintulu in July.

The event was organised by SMK Sacred Heart and Sibu District education office.

Sibu MP Oscar Ling officiated at the closing ceremony and gave away prizes to the winners who received trophies and certificat­es.

SMK Sacred Heart senior assistant ( co- curriculla­r) Lau Tiew Kiong and the supervisor of Sibu District education office (co- curiculum) Inggol Utek were also present.

Meanwhile, the winner for Best Costume in the ‘Solo ‘Irama Malaysia’ was Crishtina Riau Kandau from SMK Durin while the Best Costume in the Live Band competitio­n was won by SMK Sacred Heart.

The Best Performanc­e in the Live Band competitio­n was won by SMK Sacred Heart, and the Best Vocal was won by SMK Bukit Lima.

A total of 12 secondary schools took part in the ‘ Solo ‘ Irama Malaysia’ singing contest’ while five secondary schools participat­ed in the Live Band competitio­n here.
