Professionalism of 31st Infantry Brigade personnel to be upgraded
SIBU: The professionalism of the 31st Infantry Brigade personnel will be upgraded from time to time so that they will be on par with other infantries if not better.
The commander of Eastern Field Command of the Armed Forces, Lt Gen Datuk Wira Zamrose Mohd Zain, said that this is because the 31st Infantry Brigade was just established three years ago.
“Most of its personnel are made up of locals (Sarawakians). Generally, the personnel are from the Territorial Army in Port Dickson and have been absorbed into the Border Regiment.
“Thus, from time to time we had recognised the Border Regiment as an Infantry unit,” he added when met by reporters after making his inaugural visit to the 31st Infantry Brigade headquarters at Junaco Park Camp here on Tuesday.
Also present during the visit were the 31st Infantry Brigade commander, Brig Gen Datuk Johnny Lim Eng Seng, Junaco Park Camp chief executive officer Khiu Siong Hii and 31st Infantry Brigade headquarters Chief of Staff, Lt Col Mohd Zaini Hashim.
Zamrose said Sarawak currently mantains the 6th Battalion, 7th Battalion, 8th Battalion, 9th Battalion and 10th Battalion of the Border Regiment.
“However, the 8th Battalion Border Regiment has been transferred to Tawau, Sabah to further strengthen the Sabah side of defence,” he added.
Zamrose in his speech earlier, among others, urged all the 31st Infantry Brigade personnel in general and the 6th Battalion in particular which is based at 31st Infantry Brigade Headquarters to fully utilise all the facilities provided at Junaco Park Camp.
“Just now I was brought on a tour around the camp where it has all the necessary facilities needed by the 31st Infantry Brigade personnel for their training.
“So, please make full use of these complete facilities so that the 31st Infantry Brigade will be on par with the others,” he pointed out.
Zamrose also called on all the 31st Infantry Brigade personnel and particularly those in the 6th Battalion Border Regiment at all levels to work closely with Lim in bringing glory to the 31st Infantry Brigade in maintaining peace and security at the SarawakKalimantan border.
