-

KUCHING: An eatery located at Jalan Haji Taha here has been ordered to close while its 10 foreign workers were detained during an integrated operation on April 12.

According to a press statement from Kuching North City Commission ( DBKU) yesterday, the operation was carried out by DBKU Licensing Department together with Immigration Department of Sarawak and the Health Department to check on any misconduct by food premises under its jurisdiction.

The statement revealed that the food premises was closed under Section 11 of the Food Act 1983 for not achieving the minimum cleanliness requirement and not having Food Premises License from DBKU. Its foreign workers were also detained for not having proper working permits.

“Two food premises were inspected during the operation from 8pm to 10pm. A few instruction notices were issued. DBKU is taking the hiring of foreign workers in food premises seriously as these workers must have work permits,” added the statement.

Officers involved in the operation also found that some food premises still neglect the cleanliness of their premises hence they were reminded to obtain the proper licences before operating.

Operators of food premises were also asked to register and undergo Food Operator’s Training Course at training schools endorsed by the Health Department.

“DBKU also hoped food operators would get anti-Typhoid vaccine and keep their premises clean at all times,” added the statement.

Failure of food operators to comply with the requirement set by the authorities will result in action taken against them.
