Exchange recyclables for parking coupons at Wisma Sanyan

SIBU: Members of the public bringing 500 grams of recyclable items to the roofed carpark of Wisma Sanyan here on April 20 and 21 can exchange them for a 40 sen parking coupon.

They can redeem the coupons at the booth between 9am and 5pm on both days.

“The public are encouraged to bring with them old newspapers, books or magazines, aluminium cans and plastic bottles, which they can exchange for parking coupons.

“500 grams of recyclable items can be exchanged with one piece of 40 sen parking coupon. They (members of public bringing the recyclable items) will also get one recyclable bag,” Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) deputy chairperson

She was asked on the quantity of recyclable items that members of the public need to bring on those days in order to exchange for parking coupons.

Meanwhile, the ‘Love Earth Day’ campaign organising chairman Councillor Lai Chiong Ann said the council would assess how the public respond to the programme during the two days

SMC chairman Datuk Tiong Thai King had said the coupon redemption programme would be turned into a long-term project.

Meanwhile, SMC will run its two- day ‘Love Earth Day’ event on the ground floor of Wisma Sanyan here, commencing at 8am on April 20.

Lai said this year’s campaign will focus on the five Rs – refuse, reduce, reuse, repair and recycle.

The two- day programme includes slide and video show on making recycled items, video competition relating to illegal dumping in Sibu and ban of polystyrene, ‘Say No’ to plastic bags and ‘Say No’ to plastic straws campaign, educational talk and exhibition.
