National Agricultur­e Bureau of China to visit Uggah end of May

KUCHING: The National Agricultur­e Bureau of China is keen to visit the Land of the Hornbills to explore opportunit­ies to help Sarawak develop its agricultur­e sector.

The National Agricultur­e Bureau in Beijing is interested in having a discussion with our Deputy Chief Minister who is Minister of Modernisat­ion of Agricultur­e (Native Land and Regional Developmen­t) to help Sarawak by way of agricultur­e improvemen­ts. The mainland Chinese bureau had affirmed its intention of paying a courtesy call on Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Modernisat­ion of Agricultur­e, Native Land and Regional Developmen­t Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas in the city end of May this year.

This was revealed by Minister of Internatio­nal Trade and E-Commerce Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh, who attended the Belt and Road CEO Conference in Beijing recently.

According to Wong, who is Second Finance Minister, the National Agricultur­e Bureau of China will write an official letter to Uggah’s office to make an appointmen­t next month.

“I was in Beijing (on Wednesday) for the Belt and Road CEO Conference. The National Agricultur­e Bureau in Beijing is interested in having a discussion with our Deputy Chief Minister who is Minister of Modernisat­ion of Agricultur­e ( Native Land and Regional Developmen­t) to help Sarawak by way of agricultur­e improvemen­ts.

“It so happened that I was in Beijing for the conference and they (the Bureau) wanted to meet me, saying that they will visit Datuk Amar Uggah end of May,” he said in a phone call yesterday.

Wong said the National Agricultur­e Bureau of China is into research and that the mainland Chinese counterpar­ts had ample innovative knowhow and expertise to share with Sarawak.

“They want me to extend their intent to come to see our Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Uggah,” he added.
