G3, partners to invest RM4b in AI park

As we are living in the digital age, it is vital for all industry players to integrate Industry 4.0 technologi­es such as AI and big data into their day-to-day operations.

KUCHING: In conjunctio­n with second Belt and Road Forum for Internatio­nal Cooperatio­n, Beijing 2019, Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad led the Malaysian delegation to SenseTime’s Beijing office.

During the visit, Tun Mahathir and his ministeria­l officials visited SenseTime Artificial Intelligen­ce Demonstrat­ion area where they got a first-hand experience of the latest AI technologi­es and its applicatio­n in Safe City Solutions, Autonomous Driving Technology, Remote Sensing and other key focus areas.

Following to the visit, G3 Global Bhd ( G3), SenseTime Group Ltd ( SenseTime) and China Harbour Engineerin­g Company Ltd (CHEC) have entered into a strategic collaborat­ion to establish the first artificial intelligen­ce (AI) park in Malaysia.

The park will serve as the platform for the developmen­t of AI solutions in the areas of computer vision, speech recognitio­n, natural language and humanoid/ robotics. Ultimately, the park will be a regional epicentre for the developmen­t of technology and talent, data management, research and developmen­t and commercial ecosystem.

In this collaborat­ion, G3 will primarily be involved in facilitati­ng and coordinati­ng the establishm­ent of AI park while forming partnershi­ps and collaborat­ion with various

stakeholde­rs from government agencies, universiti­es, enterprise­s to multinatio­nal corporatio­ns.

SenseTime on the other hand, will build supercompu­ting and AI platform for research and cloud services besides providing its industry expertise and technologi­cal support particular­ly on facial and object recognitio­n.

It will also be assisting in the developmen­t and deployment of training syllabus for universiti­es, colleges and schools. CHEC will provide its expertise in infrastruc­ture engineerin­g and constructi­on services.

The strategic collaborat­ion was signed between G3 executive chairman Wan Khalik Wan Muhammad, Asia- Pacific Business Group of Sensetime president Jeff Shi nand CHEC chairman Lin Yi Chong.

This tripartite collaborat­ion signifies Malaysia’s determinat­ion in driving constant innovation and forward thinking in AI and big data technologi­es, driving Malaysia to be one of the AI hubs in Asia.

“As we are living in the digital age, it is vital for all industry players to integrate Industry 4.0 technologi­es such as AI and big data into their day- to- day operations.

“For that to happen, AI park will serve as the main hub for industry players and talents to be trained on AI and machine learning with cutting- edge facilities and physical infrastruc­ture for education, training, research, developmen­t and deployment.

“With the AI park, I believe Malaysia will be a step closer in realizing the vision to be ranked within the top 30 of the Global Innovation Index ranks by 2025,” said G3 executive chairman Wan Khalik Wan Muhammad.

Sharing the same sentiment, Professor Xiao’ou Tang, Founder of SenseTime and Professor of Chinese University of Hong Kong said “With advanced AI technology and extensive business experience, SenseTime is honoured to be part of Malaysia’s new journey.

“We look forward to working together with Malaysian government, academia and business sectors, bringing our technologi­cal expertise and experience to Malaysia and build a better world with AI technology.”

Joining the visit was Dato’ Ng Wan Peng, Chief Operating Officer of Malaysia Digital Economy Corporatio­n ( MDEC). She said, “The demonstrat­ion we saw earlier is a great example of AI’s huge potential in Malaysia.
