Catch Martin Yan at charity showcase in May
KUCHING: International chef and culinary consultant Martin Yan will be in the city for a twoday charity showcase.
This was officially announced when the organiser paid a courtesy call on Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Lee Kim Shin.
The meeting with Lee was held in the run-up to the Second Asia Pacific Culinary Forum and International Charity Cooking Demonstration 2019, set to run from May 14 – 16.
The demonstration would be led by the iconic culinary personality – best known for his television show ‘Yan Can Cook’.
The event is organised by Kuching How Yu Chefs Association, in connection with ‘Malaysia Koo Soo Restaurants and Chefs Association’s 39th Session Annual General Meeting 2019’ scheduled for May 14.
The culinary show is a corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative by the Malaysia Koo Soo Restaurant and Chefs Association and Kuching How Yu Chefs Association, in aid of Society for Critically Sick Children (SOS Kids) and Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society (SCCS).
According to the chairman of both associations Goh Ah Seng, they are expecting a positive turnout for the charity event.
Meanwhile, Business Events Sarawak (BESarawak) chief operating officer Amelia Roziman regarded the forum-demonstration programme as a step in the right direction towards elevating the business events industry.
“This will enhance interest among youths in the culinary industry and provide more diversity, opportunities and international exposure to youths and also to the local practitioners in the culinary industry,” she said. In his remarks, Lee spoke about the significance of this event with Sarawak tourism, describing it not only as a meeting-cum-forum, but also an international event that would be tied up with the ongoing Visit Sarawak Campaign (VSC) 2019.
“This event will be listed as part of VSC to attract more delegates from different countries.”
The first day of the charity cooking demonstration is May 15 at Aeroville Mall – a new commercial centre located not far from Kuching International Airport.
Those interested to attend could purchase tickets at RM100 each.
The second day would be on May 16 at The Spring Shopping Mall here.
Admission to this session is free.
