Group to hold Pre-Gawai & Mothers’ Day Get-Together Dinner
MIRI: The Orang Ulu Ladies Group will be holding a Pre-Gawai & Mothers’ Day Get-Together Dinner today at Dynasty Hotel here starting at 6.30pm.
According to the event organising chairlady, Kijan Toynbee, the dinner is an opportunity for Orang Ulu ladies to celebrate the coming Gawai Dayak celebration before they leave for their respective villages to celebrate the festival.
“Apart from celebrating Gawai, this get-together is also to celebrate the contributions and sacrifices of all mothers in conjunction with Mothers’ Day which falls on May 12 this year,” she told reporters after a rehearsal session for the dinner here on Thursday night.
Kijan added that the Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Lee Kim Shin is guest of honour at the gathering which is expected to be attended by about 250 guests.
Touching further on the dinner, she said that among the programmes planned especially for that evening are Kebaya contest, performances like Long Dance, ngajat, Ulun Paluh bamboo dance, poco-poco and others.
All dinner guests are also urged to dress according to the night’s theme either in Kebaya Nyonya or batik attire.
