Long Banga folk question slow response to repair telecom tower

-

MIRI: Residents of Long Banga in Baram are unhappy that the telecommunications tower in their area has been out of order for over six months.

Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Mulu Youth chief Usat Bilong pointed out that although the tower is not working, it is still being supplied with 24-hour electricity.

“This is for me a waste of money to run the engine with no service.

“We’ve already informed the MCMC (Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission) office in Miri and their sub-contractor to look into this problem, but until today, there is no action from them,” he complained to thesundaypost yesterday.

Usat pointed out that as the village is in a remote area, an eight-hour drive from Miri, the residents need telecommunications facilities especially for emergencies.

“It is also very important for tourists to call if there is any trip to the village.

“We hope MCMC and any government body that is related to this service will come up with a solution to help us with this issue,” he added.
