PBB Batu Kawa holds prawning competition
KUCHING: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Batu Kawa branch held a prawning competition recently to foster closer ties with the community.
Its chairman Datuk Ahmad Ibrahim said the branch is looking at organising the event on an annual basis as it was well received.
“It is my hope that such competitions would foster solidarity among us, regardless of who wins or loses,” he said at the prize presentation ceremony held at Kampung Rantau Panjang here recently.
The competition saw 43 participants vying for the top cash prizes of RM700, RM500, RM400, RM300 and RM200.
The sixth place to 30th place participants did not go back empty handed as they received consolation prizes in the form of attractive items.
Meanwhile, Ahmad who is also Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) deputy chairman, called on Sarawakians to remain united to ensure harmony and prosperity.
“The spirit of the multi-racial and multi-religious Sarawakians is a sentiment that continues to unite us regardless of our race, beliefs and customs. All the development and prosperity we enjoy today is the result of consensus, understanding and respect which have existed for many years,” he said.
Also present was political secretary to the chief minister Tan Kai who represented Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian.
