KUCHING: Two training ships attached with Skuadron 27 of the Royal Malaysian Navy (TLDM) are now docked at Kuching Port Authority wharf in Pending here for a public open day from 9am to 6pm today.

The ships KD Gagah Samudera and KD Teguh Samudera have been sailing together for three weeks.

According to KD Gagah Samudera executive officer Lieutenant Mohamad Kassrie Kassim, this is their second visit as both ships were here last year for the same purpose.

“We came back here to hold training for our young officers to introduce them to the various ports in Malaysia and also overseas,” he told reporters after the ships arrived at the port yesterday.

The open day is aimed at giving the public an opportunity to see the two ships up close and get an insight of the work culture of the navy and its personnel.

Among the activities for the open day are briefing and tour of ships, exhibition, photography session, sale of TLDM souvenirs, karaoke, sunset ceremony and others.

Skuadron 27 ships are scheduled to sail off on May 7 for their base in Lumut, Perak.
