SIBU: Ninety organisations here took part in the Tua Pek Kong Temple procession here on Friday night to celebrate the birthday of its deity.

The participants included those from the various social organisations, political parties, lion and dragon dance troupes and members from other Chinese temples.

The event also saw the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) sending their Dayak members to join the procession while the Hindu temple also sent their devotees to take part in the walk.

The Tua Pek Kong Temple holds this procession once every three years.

The procession was highlighted by mediums sitting on spiked chairs. Other colourful events like performers dressing up as characters from the Chinese literature “Journey to the West” such as the God of Fortune and others were also featured.

Before the event was scheduled to start, it rained heavily at 5.45pm but briefly.

Leading the procession, which began at 7pm, were Sibu Resident Charles Siaw and Tua Pek Kong Temple Committee led by its chairman Temenggong Soon Choon Hoo.
