Police nab break-in suspect with stolen goods

KUCHING: A 25 year old male suspect who allegedly broke into SK St Stephen, Bau on April 29 was arrested by the police around 3pm on Friday at a village in Bau.

Bau District Police chief DSP Poge Nyaon who confirmed the arrest said the police also seized a rice cooker - which was one of the stolen items.

“A background check on the suspect also revealed that he has a past criminal record,” said Poge in a statement yesterday.

He added that the suspect is under remand and will be investigat­ed under Section 457 of the Penal Code for house breaking which is punishable with imprisonme­nt for a term which may extend to five years and shall also be liable to fine.

Meanwhile, a police report was lodged by one of the school teachers who was informed of the incident by the school’s security guard on April 29.

“The teacher was at her home when she received a call informing her of the break in around 5.30am,” he added.

Also missing from the school’s kitchen was a cooking gas cylinder.
