SIBU: Food lovers here will be spoilt for choice when the popular Ramadan Bazaar at Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang (formerly Sibu Town Square) Phase II opens for business, starting tomorrow (May 6).

Sibu Stallholders Committee deputy chairman Abang Nor Hamzah Bujang said bazaar patrons can expect to see the introduction of new menu in addition to the usual mouthwatering local delicacies.

He said the bazaar organised by the committee in collaboration with Nangka Service Centre will run from 2pm till around 8pm daily until June 2.

“I think the public will be spoilt for choice as there will be a wider variety of food and drinks offered this time around. In fact, there will also be ‘Rojak Bintangor’ featured at the bazaar,” he told reporters here yesterday.

He added that there will be 185 traders plying their trade at the bazaar with 25 of them selling barbeque-related products.

There will also be stalls displaying bikes and other merchandise.

Abang Nor Hamzah said he himself will be selling his signature dish such as ‘Roti John’ and adding a new drink – ‘Kopi Ais Madu’ to his list.

“The Ramadan Bazaar is strategically located in the town centre with ample parking space making it a crowd puller,” he enthused.

Abang Nor Hamzah said the peak time will be from 4.30pm onwards where the bazaar is expected to be packed with people from all walks of life.

“We also expect big crowd between June 1 and 2 in conjunction with the Gawai Dayak celebration.”

Meanwhile, its chairman Hussin Salim noted that in previous years, the crowd even came from surrounding places such as Sarikei, Mukah and even from Kuching.

He thanked Assistant Minister of Housing and Public Health Dr Annuar Rapaee whose service centre borne the cost of renting and erecting the 40 canopies at the bazaar.

He also thanked Sibu Municipal Council, the police and Fire and Rescue Department here for their cooperation and assistance.
