KUCHING: The Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management of UCSI University Sarawak Campus and Sarawak United National Youth Organisation (Saberkas) hosted a 3-on-3 basketball competition and telematch at Chung Hua Middle School No. 4 here on July 28.

Entitled ‘ Saberkas Spormoji 2019’, it was the first collaboration between UCSI University and Saberkas which is an NGO centred on youth development, and was fully funded by Saberkas Padungan branch.

“A very big thank you to our sponsors, UCSI Hotel, Grand Margherita Hotel, Seoul Garden, Sugar Bun, The Raw Kitchen, MOMA Water, Foon Glass Enterprise, New Satay House, TL Masterpiece, and Khong Fah Trading Sdn Bhd. Without them, Saberkas Spormoji would not have been so successful” said organising chairperson Sim Wen Yee.

This event was organised by 37 UCSI University students with Saberkas to promote unity among Sarawak’s youth and to encourage and develop physical culture and sports among the youths in Sarawak; at the same time developing their individual abilities.

“The event involved 95 youth participants and approximately 170 attendees including invited guests and VIPs, committee members, judges and referees for basketball, as well as friends and families,” added a press release by the organisers.

The telematch attracted 10 groups and the basketball competition registered 16 groups.

The top three winning teams walked away with RM300 in cash, vouchers, medals as well as certificates of participation.

The first place in the telematch category went to The Dream Team, second was Hope of the Star and in third place was 3L2P.

As for the 3-on-3 basketball category, first place was won by Team Purple, while Hu Lu Wa and Team SOS Chili were second and third respectively.

Both first place teams won themselves a complimentary one night stay at UCSI Hotel Kuching and a RM300 cash prize.

Despite this being the first time that UCSI University Sarawak had collaborated with Saberkas, organisers opined that there was great mutual trust and support in making this event successful, which they said marked another milestone in UCSI University Sarawak’s journey in collaborating with Saberkas.

The university hopes to have more collaboration with Saberkas in the near future.
