People’s full cooperation with new SMC chairman expected
SIBU: Chairman of Saberkas Pelawan Branch Eddy Puah calls for understanding and cooperation from the people for the newly appointed Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) chairman, Clarence Ting Ing Horh .
Puah said having worked directly with the late Datuk Robert Lau Hoi Chew and Vincent Goh Chung Siong when both were chairman and deputy chairman of SMC in the late 90s to the early 2000s, he understood the many demands which the public has of the council.
“As such, it’s never an easy task. But I dare say, both of them set the bar rather high by working with so many different grounds and breaking so many glass ceilings in the process.”
While his admiration for both leaders was apparent, Puah said the next chairman Datuk Tiong Thai King who took over in the mid 2000s, also did his part well.
He said the late Robert Lau and Vincent Goh sparked a revolutionary change for Sibu, while Tiong as one of guiding the people gently along. ‘One of kindness and compassion’.
When asked to comment on Ting’s appointment, Puah called for understanding and cooperation from the public for the new chairman .
“Let us give him our support. Instead of just criticising, let us ask ourselves what we can do to make a situation better.
“It’s always easy to criticise. And while so many of us say we do understand, I believe we will never truly feel the burden someone feels until we have experienced the same burden or pain a person has to endure. It is only when we endure it ourselves, can we say we truly understand.
Just as Puah rallied his schoolmates during a Sacred Heart School Old Boys reunion a few years ago to raise funds for the school with the words; ‘If not now, then when? If not here, then where? If not us, then who?’.
