Sarikei all geared up to host state-level National Day do

SARIKEI: This town will come alive this Aug 31, as it will host the state-level National Day celebratio­n.

Preparatio­ns for the grand event are underway, including the temporary closure of a long stretch at Nyelong Road here, where the main canopied area will be sited.

An exclusive tea party will also take place that day, to be graced by Yang Di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Raghad Kurdi Taib.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg and wife Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang will also attend the event.

The celebratio­n is set to commence at 8am.

One of the various arts and cultural showcases for the day will be dance performanc­es by a SMK Bandar Bintangor troupe, which represente­d Sarawak at a national-level dance competitio­n this year, and also a group of children with special needs from Sarikei Community-Based Rehabilita­tion Centre.

There will also be an exhibition on ‘Sarawak Pride’ on Aug 30, where Taib is scheduled to officiate at around 2pm.

After that, a townhall session on ‘Today for Tomorrow (T4T)’ will commence at the Central Market Hall.

Today, Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Developmen­t Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah

– the minister-in-charge of the state-level National Day 2019 celebratio­n – would chair the organising committee’s meeting at Sri Nyelong Room here, commencing at 2pm.
