State Girl Guides Rangers carry out work party at PPDK

SARIKEI: Members of Girl Guides Ranger (Persatuan Pandu Puteri Renjer Malaysia) from various parts of the state led by State Commission­er Rosnani Abdul Latif carried out a work party (gotong-royong) during a visit to Community-Based Rehabilita­tion Centre (PPDK) here yesterday.

According to PPDK Chairman Alfreda Darling Swithun, among the activities carried out were cleaning and tidying of the premises, planting of vegetables at the small backyard besides donation of shirts to 66 trainees at the centre.

In her welcoming speech, Alfreda said that the centre provides basic education and training programme for people with restricted abilities. Trainees learn to read, write and count; enhance speaking ability; learn to manage themselves besides being taught to make handicraft.

Alfreda thanked the Girl Guides members who came from Kuching, Miri, Bintulu, Serian, Sibu, Julau, Meradong and Sarikei to be with them as well as for the donation.
