Dudong constituents urged to support GPS

-

SIBU: The people in Dudong constituency are urged to support Gabungan Parti Sarawak ( GPS) in the coming state election.

Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Dudong branch chairman Wong Ching Yong said this is because GPS comprises Sarawakbased parties which understand best the people of Sarawak and which will defend the rights and interests of Sarawakians most steadfastly.

Speaking at the branch’s ‘ceramah’ at Tekam Road here on Saturday night, Wong described the Education Ministry under Dr Maszlee Malik as extremely disappointing and directionless.

He said the minister had introduced many policies which were meaningless and a waste of time for schools and students, citing among them the ruling on white and black shoes and the suggestion for schools to teach students to swim in hotel swimming pools.

He also criticized Deputy Education Minister Teo Nie Ching, amongst others, for breaking her promise on the recognition of Unified Examination Certificate (UEC).

Wong suggested that Maszlee should be removed from the cabinet.

Touching on the ceramah, he said it was the first of 10 such political gatherings to be held over the coming months and the branch would also hold similar programmes with the Iban community.

Wong said such political gathering is not uncommon to the people of Dudong because from 1991 to 2011, former Dudong assemblyman Dr Soon Choon Teck used to hold monthly ceramah.

“It was during such ceramah that the grievances, problems and local issues could be voiced out directly.

”Many problems were solved but some were regrettably outstanding,” he said.

He told the residents that SUPP would continue to find a solution for those unsolved cases.

Dr Soon, who is advisor of SUPP Dudong branch, in his speech criticized the Pakatan Harapan (PH) state leaders on their broken promises, among them the promise openly made by state PH leaders before the 14th general election that if PH could form the federal government, Sarawak would be given 20 per cent oil royalty and 50 per cent of taxes collected from the state.

Assistant branch secretary Dr Wong Chya Wei also made scathing attacks on PH for the broken promises, quoting the statement by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad that Buku Harapan is not a Bible and therefore needs not be fulfilled accordingly as one of them.

“This sort of explanation by a prime minister is totally unacceptable,” he said.
