RM100 million schools repair project tendered out — Baru

KUCHING: Minister of Works Baru Bian says the RM100-million allocation from the federal government to fix dilapidated schools in Sarawak has been approved and the projects have been tendered out.

“I think you will hear of that soon. That RM100 million from the federal government I know because it has been tendered out,” he told reporters after the opening ceremony of the 23rd Pacific Association of Quantity Surveyors 2019 congress here yesterday.

Baru added the federal-funded repairs of dilapidated schools in Sarawak have been divided into 10 packages with two to three schools in each package.

He, however, was not certain how many schools would benefit from the RM100 million.

“But the package in Lawas I know. There are three schools

- SK Lawas, SK Trusan, SK Ulu Lubai - in that package.

“I also know that my former school in Long Semadoh had been picked as one of the schools that will be fixed under that RM100million allocation,” he said.

The Selangau member of Parliament said for him, the issue of dilapidated schools is a very important matter, especially in Sarawak and Sabah.

He said he had raised this issue for quite some time even in the State Legislative Assembly sitting therefore the implementation should start as soon as possible.

On another matter, Baru said the cancellation of the project delivery partner (PDP) model for the Pan Borneo Highway in Sarawak has not been decided yet. “It has to be decided by the cabinet, it will be decided very soon and I will announce it accordingly,” he said.
