-

KUCHING: Local co-working space iCube Innovation Sdn Bhd (iCube) marked its fourth anniversary by organising ‘ Go digital with Google and Shopee - Sarawak Edition’ which garnered over 100 participants yesterday.

Held at The Space by iCube, the one-day event comprised ‘Mahir Digital Bersama Google’ (in-person training sessions for small businesses on the digital tools needed to succeed) and Shopee Malaysia’s session on ecommerce and marketing tools tips.

Strategic manager for iCube, Malcolm Wu, said these sessions were meant to digitally upskill the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Sarawak.

He also shared that the trainers involved were impressed with the eagerness shown by the participants to learn more about the e-commerce space.

He pointed out that the Google session for example showed participants they can get their businesses listed across Google Search and Maps and trained business owners on how to use online tools to interact with

customers.

As for the Shopee session, he said it was to let participants know what Shopee has to offer as another trade channel for them and a platform to get their products across users registered to Shopee.

“E-commerce is one of the fastest growing industries with an increasing adoption rate from Malaysians who are becoming digital-savvy,” he said.

A participant, Sharifah NongJasima Syed Junaidi, gave the thumbs up to the event by saying it was good in terms of motivating people who had no idea on how to kick start a business, even a small one.

“In less than an hour, I’ve managed to get a better understanding of the game. I recently took Business Management and Entrepreneurship classes, and I’ve managed to get better input as compared to six hours worth of classes. Do keep it up! If there’s more, I will join,” she enthused.

Another participant, Ryan Tidan Bryce Jolly said he was impressed with the organising of the event and he hoped to attend more of such events at the same venue soon.

“For the Google session, it was a breath of fresh air. It was interactive; not the usual ‘sit down and listen to me’. Great space utilised, pretty comfortable and accommodating. The complimentary lunch was a bonus and eased most of us here from wandering off too far for grub,” he said.
