SUPP unveils proposed plans to transform Rejang Park

-

SIBU: The Pelawan Renewal Plan seeks to explore new solutions to transform Rejang Park into a modern model for suburban living serving the interests of both young and old, business community and residents.

Michael Tiang, political secretary to the Chief Minister, said the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Pelawan branch will soon propose to the state government for special funding to implement the project.

“Many think that Sibu is now an old and tired town in the central region. But we believe Sibu is a town that still possesses many potentials which requires new solutions to renew its glory and energy. While seeking new solutions to renew places in Pelawan, we focus on Rejang Park as our experimental laboratory due to its location, structures and density of residence. Hence, it is very suitable for our project to be experimented there (Rejang Park), “he told reporters when asked to elaborate on a point in his speech at SUPP Pelawan branch’s fifth anniversary and SUPP’s 60th anniversary gala dinner here recently.

Tiang added: “We believe Rejang Park’s location is a gem but it needs to be injected with fresh energy and transformed into a new image. With renewal plans implemented, we hope to stimulate the local economy, property values as well as the quality of life.”

Sharing SUPP Pelawan’s latest vision for Rejang Park commercial square, he also revealed plans to construct a shaded or covered way. He reckoned that such a structure is timely as the square has remained as it is for the past 40 years.

“We want to solve all these problems by proposing this shaded/covered ways to cover that area, enabling traders to continue operating their business even during rainy days and all the way up into the evening,” he commented.

Meanwhile, Tiang revealed plans to replace the old tiles.

He was happy to note that the former cinema building owner has agreed with the concept and would like to take part by repainting the building to make it more vibrant.

The call was then made to all the commercial area owners to work with them to ensure the success of this proposed project.

The ultimate goal, he pointed out, is to attract more people to Rejang Park to boost economic activities. When that happens, he added, the elderly folk could conveniently do shopping there without having to go the town centre.

“This will also be a pleasant surprise for those coming back for the Lunar New Year celebration,” he said.

With the support of Sibu Municipal Council (SMC), Tiang reckoned, the next step would be to propose to the state government for special allocation to launch the proposed project for the benefit of people there. KUCHING: Sarawak’s biggest ACG (Anime, Comics, and Games) event Otakyun! 2019 is back at CityONE Megamall this October.

Organised by Anime Gathering (AG) team, the event will be happening on Oct 12 and 13 from 11am to 6pm on both days. The theme for this year is Bakumatsu (a time-period in Japan between 1853-1867). With Otakyun!’s previous years of showcasing big names in the world’s cosplay industry, it is no different this year with the appearance of two guest cosplayers namely Angie and Jun.

Angie is a Malaysian cosplayer who is also a fashion designer and illustrator. Her cosplay career started in 2008 and she was a special guest at DoKomi ACG event in Germany this June, where she cosplayed her interpretation of Red Riding Hood.

Jun hails from Hong Kong and has been a guest cosplayer for other ACG events since 2015. He is a freelance makeup artist whose latest event appearance was in July when he cosplayed as Andromeda Shun from Saint Seiya.

In addition, resident feature cosplayer and newly-appointed Otakyun! ambassador Yugana Senshi Uon will also be returning to the event, joined by speciallyinvited feature cosplayer for this year, Nessarose. Artist and master doodler Kendylife will also be making his appearance.

This year is the first time that Otakyun! will have cosplayer booths where cosplayers are able to sell their own merchandise and interact with fans. This is an opportunity for cosplayers (veteran or new) to have a platform to meet new people who are like-minded and grow in their own style. Due to the positive response last year, AG is bringing back the Glitter Pack with entrance tickets for both days and limited edition Otakyun! merchandise not available for sale. Those buying the Glitter Pack will also stand a chance to win a limited VIP card with special benefits during event days.

Booth application and ticket sales are now available at www. anigathering.com. For updates on the events, check out Facebook page at https://www.facebook. com/AnimeGathering/.
