Sukan Rakyat aims to foster closer ties between MPP, RPR Batu Kawa folk
KUCHING: Around 200 residents from around RPR Batu Kawa Phase 1 and 2 took part in a ‘Sukan Rakyat’ (Folk Games) event, run by Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) here recently..
The mini-carnival was held with a key objective of fostering closer ties between the community and the council, particularly its new councillors.
Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang, who is also MPP chairman, said the running of such event would enable both the council and the community to come together. “There is no barrier in sports. “We want to build a rapport between MPP councillors and the local community, so that they can get to know the council and the respective councillors better,” he told reporters when met at the closing of the ‘Sukan Rakyat’ event at RPR Batu Kawa Phase 1 and 2 Unity Hall here yesterday.
Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian, who is Batu Kawa assemblyman, performed the closing ceremony.
Adding on, Lo said through such community engagement event, the MPP would be able to obtain feedback from the residents in areas under its jurisdiction.
“Our aim is to provide the best for the community and in order to do so, we need to engage with the people and we will try our best to do the best we can. Among the feedback received are requests for regular pruning of trees and grass-cutting, as well as complaints about dogs roaming free in the area,” he added.
MPP deputy chairman Datuk Ahmad Ibrahim was also present.
