S’wak Energy in final stage of interconnection negotiations with Brunei
KUCHING: Sarawak Energy and Brunei’s Department of Electricity Supply are in the final stage of negotiation towards building a business case for interconnections.
Minister of Utilities Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom said interconnection promotes efficient and economic use of diverse energy resources.
“It can also improve power system stability and voltage control,” he said on Wednesday when commenting on the negotiations and the subsequent gains for Sarawak.
Brunei’s Foreign Affairs Minister II Dato Seri Setia Awang Erywan Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Mohd Yusof told reporters that the energy supply negotiation between Sarawak and Brunei is currently in the final stages but did not disclose further information.
Awang Erywan was with Brunei’s Finance and Economy Minister II Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Mohd Amin Liew Abdullah and Foreign Affairs Ministry acting deputy director Awang Aizul Sofrin Dato Paduka Abdul Aziz for a courtesy call on Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg at Wisma Bapa Malaysia in Petra Jaya here on Tuesday.
