DARO: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg will officiate at the commencement of the project to build the RM597.58-million proposed Muara Lassa bridge on Sept 8.

In stating this, Assistant Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development Datuk Julaihi Narawi said the project is fully funded by the state government and will benefit the people of Daro and the surrounding areas.

The 2.43km bridge will be the second longest bridge in the state after Batang Lupar Bridge which is 5.1 kilometres long.

“Works are expected to be completed in 48 months. The bridge is part of the 896km coastal road project in Sarawak,” he said when visiting construction site yesterday.

The project, he added, is in line with the government’s effort to connect all the longhouses, villages and small towns along the coastal area.

“This project shows that the government under Gabungan the Parti Sarawak (GPS) led by the chief minister is committed and able to fulfil its promises to the people,” he said.

Earlier, Julaihi, who is the Sebuyau assemblyman, chaired the final meeting of the earth-breaking ceremony of Muara Lassa bridge at Daro District Office. Also present were Igan MP Ahmad Johnie Zawawi, Daro assemblyman Safiee Ahmad, Balingian assemblyman Abdul Yakub Arbi and permanent secretary to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Port Development Datu Safri Zainudin.
