Unimas EnCon2019 wraps up today
KUCHING: Today will be the last day of the 12th Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) STEM Engineering Conference (EnCon2019) that is held at a leading hotel here.
In a press statement, Unimas said the theme for this year’s conference is ‘Revolutionised Innovative Engineering and Technology Towards Sustainable Development’.
Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Law, State-Federal Relations and Project Monitoring) Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali represented Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg in officiating at the conference yesterday.
According to the university, the conference provides a platform for professionals to build networking, critical discussion on new updates, sharing of innovative ideas towards the 4th Industrial Revolution specifically in the science, technology and engineering fields.
More than 70 technical papers are presented at the two-day conference which brings together research topics concerning the latest technologies.
The conference also features the International Science and Engineering Expo (i-STEEx) to showcase innovative product designs by high school students and institutions of higher learning and the industries.
This year, i-STEEx showcases 41 innovations by 120 students from secondary schools, totalling 186 innovations since 2016.
During the ceremony, the Ministry of Utilities presented documents to Unimas declaring that it is a ‘Competency Training and Examination Centre’.
Three memorandums of agreement (MoA) and three memorandums of understanding (MoU) were exchanged between the university’s Faculty of Engineering and several industry players during the opening ceremony of the conference.
The MoAs are with Trienekens (Sarawak) and Edgenta Mediserve while the MoUs are with Amcan Integrated Industries, Hoi Fu Group and Gabungan Binaan Jurutenaga.
Through these collaborations, the university’s Faculty of Engineering hopes to establish more industrial engagements in the future.
Meanwhile, the conference is jointly organised with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Institute of Engineers Malaysia and Sarawak Multimedia Authority.
The conference is supported by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Research, Sarawak.
Today, the participants will make a technical visit to the Kuching-Serian road interchange along the Pan Borneo Highway.
