Anthony Banyan passes away

KUCHING: A senior vice president of the Sarawak Dayak National Union ( SDNU) passed away at Miri Hospital at 11.45am yesterday after he collapsed in his office.

Alexander Anthony Banyan, 57, a senior Sarawak Forestry officer attached to its Miri office hailed from Kampung Mangut, Machan in Kanowit.

Anthony was a life member of SDNU since 1997. He was also a member of Sarawak Dayak Graduates Associatio­n, Kuching Kanowit Community Club and Dayak Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Just last Saturday, the late Anthony attended an SDNU supreme executive committee ( SEC) meeting chaired by its president Tan Sri William Mawan here.

He brought along a collection of newspaper clippings and cuttings about SDNU and its activities for the SEC members to view after the meeting.

He leaves behind wife Mary Sintau and five children - Dr Cherrysca Dante, Cornellius Davies, Christophe­r Dickson, Carlson Dexter and Carlos Dunstan.

According to Cornellius, his late father would be laid to rest here ( Kuching) following a series of funeral wake at his home in Batu Kawah. However, detailed informatio­n would be made known only today, he added.
