KUCHING: Taska Warisan Bidayuh, a community-run kindergarten at Kampung Bogag in Bau, has continued to receive assistance from a group of Good Samaritans from Kuching.

The group’s representative, voluntary social worker Lim Chee Haw said they pooled their money to buy rice and other food items to help reduce the expenditure borne by the kindergarten which currently provides pre school education to 11 children aged 4 to 6.

Lim said the items were handed over here to the village chief Bogeg Nyaon who handed over the donations to the kindergarten.

The group also purchased food items for two poor families in Kampung Bogag, which were also received on their behalf by Bogeg who came to Kuching yesterday.

“We have assisted eligible recipients at Kampung Bogag for several times already this year,”said Lim, a retired marine police personnel now devoted to social work.

He thanked Fook Construction in MJC Lai Batu Kawa, a Mr Law and family from Foochow Road No 2, a Mr Hii and Mr Chia from Jalan Matang, and others for their donations.

Lim said he could be contacted at 082248153 or 016-8070388 to assist poor families to buy coffins for funerals.

He said the cash donations from donors were ‘parked’ at a coffin shop here to be used whenever a genuine request was received.

He said a family from Kampung Soh, Serian was the latest to receive such assistance following the death of an elderly member on Saturday.

“The donors may have done this out of an old Chinese belief that their act of kindness could reverse their bad fortune and revive or boost their business. Nonetheless, buying coffins for others is a commendable act,” said Lim.
