KLT business management students attend talk

-

SIBU: About 32 Business Management students from Kolej Laila Taib (KLT) recently attended a talk to get insights into contemporary business issues and learn how to apply theoretical knowledge in the industry.

The talk was given by executive director of GIMHAWK Enterprise Sdn Bhd, Dr Renco Yong, who was appointed the college’s industrial advisor to help develop KLT’s Diploma in Business Management programme from July 1.

Yong is also the president of Sarawak Association of Maritime Industries, founder and president of Sibu Chinese Chamber Commerce and Industry Young Entrepreneur Committee and advisory council member of UCTS.

During the talk, Yong advised students to understand their abilities and recognise their strengths to fully utilise their capabilities to achieve the best results.

He said choosing the right team was very important and encouraged students to mix with different team members during their college projects or assignments.

According to Yong, many businesses today are thinking of partnership, mergers or consolidation to resolve shortage of capital resources, finance, human capacity and technical knowledge.

Yong used some simple examples to explain complex business knowledge and models to students and stressed the importance of understanding business partners and buyers’ behaviour to find the best solution to grow the business.

Young graduates were encouraged to stay in less competitive Sibu to start businesses with minimum capital investment as the town has many resources including full support from association and government.
