Sarawak Oil Palms financially helps Rh Guntong fire victims
MIRI: Sarawak Oil Palms Berhad (SOP) has donated RM5,700 to Rumah Guntong fire victims.
Estate manager Lim Hung Hui, who handed over the donation recently, said the aid was from the SOP Disaster Relief Fund.
“SOP Disaster Relief Fund is part of the company’s corporate social responsibility — a special programme designated to reach out to the community in the vicinity of SOP’s operations affected by natural disasters, such as flood and fire.
“The donation may not be much but it is our gesture of SOP’s ongoing commitment in giving back to the society,” he said.
The company also donated rice and cooking oil to the residents.
The fire on Wednesday (Dec 18) destroyed 17 doors of the longhouse, which is located 7km from SOP’s estate.
“At the moment, they (affected residents) are currently staying at temporary shelter or with relatives nearby. They are happy with any help that could ease their burden from the unfortunate incident,” said Tuai Rumah Daniel Lawi.
