Don’t bring food to swimming pool to keep rats at bay

-

SARIKEI: To keep the rats away, food must not be brought to the public swimming pool.

Assistant senior secretary to the Ministry of Youth and Sports ( sports section) Frederick Tan gave this advice during a gathering organised by Sarikei Civic Centre and the public swimming pool for their members at the pool canteen here last Friday.

Tan said keeping rats away from the swimming pool was to avoid contamination by rat urine, which is linked to the dreaded leptospirosis disease.

He therefore suggested to the pool management to advise their clients not to bring food items into the pool compound.

He was representing the ministry’s acting permanent secretary, Nancy Jolhi, to offer his assistance in enhancing the standard of sports in the division at the gathering.

One area he could help was looking for coaches.

He told those who needed assistance to communicate with him through the ministry.

He also commended the swimming pool manager, Anthony Tan, for contributing towards the development of swimming in the division.

A representative of Repok assemblyman Penghulu Hwang Tiong Kang, Temenggong Frederick Wong and heads of various departments were also present at the event.
