Septuagenarian’s hand gets stuck

-

SARIKEI: A 74-year-old somehow managed to get her right hand stuck in the floor drain of her bathroom on Friday, leaving her trapped in a painful position between a wall and the toilet for about five hours.

Family members had to seek assistance from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) to free her.

Sarikei Bomba chief Mahmudin Narudin said following a distress call at 7.47pm, a team of eight firefighters led by senior fire officer II Hossen Karim was sent to the scene.

Upon arriving at the Jalan Eng Tai house, the firefighters found the victim semi-conscious as she had been stuck since 5pm.

“Working cautiously with a concrete breaker, the men took about two hours to free the victim’s hand,” Mahmudin said.

Medical personnel, who came in an ambulance, helped to stabilise the victim throughout the rescue operation. She was later brought to Sarikei Hospital for treatment.
