Exciting events to be held in Telang Usan this year — Rep

MIRI: Rural folks in Telang Usan can expect more activities to be held in the constituen­cy this year.

Telang Usan assemblyma­n Dennis Ngau said one of the highlights is the inaugural Sape Festival jointly organised by Telang Usan District Office and Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB).

“The Sape Festival will be held in April or May and we are inviting Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg to grace the event,” he disclosed during the New Year’s celebratio­n organised by PBB Apoh Branch Women’s Wing at a hotel here on Saturday.

Apart from that, he said the biennial Sarawak Highland Folk Music and Dance Festival is set to take place at the sub-district of Long Bedian again this year.

“We are now waiting for confirmati­on from Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Sebastian Ting on the suitable date.”

Dennis also pointed out that the annual Baram White Water Rafting Challenge is back for its 14th edition this year where this time around, it will feature a new route from Long Loyang to Long Jegan.

“I am currently in contact with the Ministry of Youth and

Sports to produce a working paper to get the budget from its minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

“We will also organise a Water Festival in Long Lama after the constructi­on of Long Lama Waterfront has been completed,” he added.

Dennis explained that more events will be organised in his constituen­cy this year in addition to the major ones mentioned.

“What I am trying to emphasise here is that our area has never really been quiet or deserted. We try to organise more events at various locations throughout

Telang Usan to attract people to these areas and boost local tourism. This is what we aim for this year,” he said.

Also present at the event were organising chairperso­n Debbie Irang, political secretary to the chief minister Charles Balan Seling who is also PBB Telang Usan deputy chairman, PBB Telang Usan Youth chief Dominic Nyurang, PBB Apoh Branch Women chief Kahen Ding, PBB Apoh branch chairman Jok Eng Jok, PBB Telang Usan Women chief Margaret Nawan, and Kayan paramount chief Temenggong Elizabeth Deng.
