Ting: Hold more CSR activities to support the needy

MIRI: Corporate companies and non-government­al organisati­ons (NGO) are encouraged to organise activities under their respective Corporate Social Responsibi­lity (CSR) programmes to contribute to the various charitable bodies here.

This was suggested by Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Sebastian Ting who said such efforts would not only contribute towards giving back to the society but also served as an opportunit­y for the public to understand the less fortunate be er.

“Through CSR programmes, we can help the less fortunate in various ways such as financiall­y, organising of gatherings and more.

“This not only helps us to understand them be er, but we can also contribute to them as a way to show our support,”

he told reporters a er visiting the Associatio­n for Physically Challenged Individual­s Miri (POKUFM) Centre in Piasau Camp here recently.

The centre recently underwent upgrading works at a cost of RM130,000 under the Rural Transforma­tion Project (RTP).

On the project, Ting disclosed that it was handed over to POKUFM by the contractor upon its completion within two months.

“The project was completed on schedule and has since been handed over to the associatio­n.

“With the completion of this project, the Sarawak government can provide members with needed facilities and amenities,” he said.

Meanwhile POKUFM secretary Abdul Aziz Brahim said the associatio­n was set up in 2016 with more than 20 registered members.

The associatio­n’s objectives among others is to encourage people with special abilities to get together to help and support one another.
