Miri to host state-level Tilawah Al-Quran event next week

-

KUCHING: Miri Division will host the 60th state-level Tilawah Al-Quran, organised by the Sarawak government through Sarawak Islamic Council.

The annual event, which will cover both the ‘tilawah’ (recitation) and ‘hafazan’ (memorisation) of verses from the Quran, will be taking place at Miri Civic Centre Hall from Jan 13 to 16 this year.

For the ‘hafazan’ category, the daily programme will run from 8am to noon on both Jan 14 and 15, while the session for the ‘tilawah’ category will commence at 8pm nightly throughout the four days.

According to the organiser, the state-level event serves to select Sarawak representatives for the national-level ‘Tilawah / Hafazan Al-Quran 2020’, to be staged in Kota Kinabalu this Feb 14-21.

“The theme this year is ‘Ummah Gemilang’ (Outstanding Society), which is very significant and in line with the current situations,” said the organiser in a press statement yesterday.

Twenty-two participants, comprising 11 ‘qari’ (men) and 11 ‘qariah’ (women), will take part in the ‘tilawah’ category.

For the ‘hafazan’, there are three categories – ‘Juzuk’ (Part) 1-10 (five qari, five qariah); ‘Juzuk 1-20’ (five qari, four qariah); and ‘Juzuk 1-30’ (five qari only).

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg is expected to officiate at the event on Jan 13, while Yang di-Pertua negeri Sarawak Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud is expected to grace the prize-presentation ceremony on Jan 16.

“Everyone is welcome attend,” said the organiser. to
