Plane overshoots runway, no injuries reported

MIRI: A MASwings Twin O er MH 3517, which was flying in from Lawas, overshot the runway upon landing at Miri Airport at 4.30pm in fine weather yesterday.

The plane was carrying 14 passengers and none of them was injured when the plane finally came to a halt at the grass verge of the airport.

The airport rescue and firefighti­ng team rushed to the scene to help the passengers disembark.

The plane was later towed to the parking bay.

At press time, neither the airport management nor MASwings had issued any statement.

According to Senator Alan Ling, he was informed by the federal Ministry of Transport that the pilot reported crosswind of five knots during landing.

Meanwhile upon learning about the incident, Minister of Transport Datuk Lee Kim Shin was relieved that no one was injured.

He said he would be writing to the federal Ministry of Transport for details about the aviation mishap.

“Although no one is injured, I hope the authoritie­s would investigat­e the cause of the incident and take preventive steps,” he said.
