Jobless man fined RM7,900 for meth possession

KUCHING: A Magistrate­s’ Court here fined an unemployed man a total of RM7,900 in default three years and three months in prison yesterday for possession of 4.03 grams of methamphet­amine.

Magistrate Nuruhuda Mohd Yusof convicted Ramzan Jarmi @ Jaraiee on his own guilty plea to two charges under Section 12 (2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which are punishable under Section 12 (3) of the same Act.

For the first charge, Ramzan was charged with possession of 3.96 grams of methamphet­amine on Aug 7 last year at a house in

Kampung Rampangi Skim at 12.30pm.

He was fined RM5,500 in default two years and 10 months in jail.

For the subsequent charge, Ramzan was charged with possession of 0.07 grams of methamphet­amine at a house in Rampangi at 11.45am on April 4 last year.

For the offence, he was fined RM2,400 in default four months in jail.

Insp Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang prosecuted the case while the accused was not represente­d by counsel.
