Tiang slammed for challenging Chong to resign

KUCHING: Youth chief of Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Michael Tiang is slammed for challenging Democratic Action Party ( DAP) Sarawak chief Chong Chieng Jen to resign from the federal cabinet.

Tiang, who is also a political secretary to chief minister, said in a statement that Chong should resign as he had failed to fight for the interest of the Chinese community. He asked what DAP had done in terms of the country’s education development.

DAP Socialist Youth (Dapsy) Serian chief Brolin Nicholsion in his response yesterday reminded Tiang that ‘he should look at what the DAP has done for the state especially in the rural areas before making any statement’.

“I would like to inform Tiang that DAP, through its ‘Impian Malaysia’ programme, has done several education programmes in the rural areas, including Serian.”

He in turn also questioned what SUPP and its leaders have done in improving the education system in Malaysia.

“SUPP has failed the Dayak, Malay and Chinese communities in terms of education development. Its deputy president (Datuk Seri Richard Riot) who is a six-term Serian MP, was with the federal cabinet for decades and yet nothing have been done to improve the educational system.

“Pakatan Harapan (PH) is only two years old, and has done many positive things in the education system. What has SUPP done as part of the government for years?

“DAP, through Impian Malaysia, has elevated the education level in rural areas to benefit all races in Sarawak while SUPP during its years with the previous government had failed to do any reforms,” he added.

He told Tiang that as a political secretary, he should have advised the state Education Ministry to implement reforms as what have been done by the former federal Education Minister Dr Mazlee Malik to benefit Sarawakians.
