MBKS says not closing BDC Recycling Centre

-

KUCHING: The Kuching South City Council (MBKS) has clarified that it will not be closing the BDC Recycling Centre.

In a statement on Monday, MBKS secretary Lilian Liew said the joint community project with Kampung Stampin, BDC residents would continue.

Established in 2002, the centre has been run by the community since 2013.

“Recently, however, the coun cil had found out that the centre is not well-managed with all personal belongings kept unorganised and, as such, MBKS decided to assign its staff to be stationed at the centre to further improve the housekeeping,” Liew said.

She was commenting on Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Public Complaints Bureau chief Wilfred Yap’s appeal for the services of the scavengers at the centre not to be terminated.

Liew called on the public to work with MBKS before issuing statements to avoid misinformation.

She added that MBKS had briefed Yap on the actual situation through zone councillors.

The centre was established to provide a venue for the public to place their recyclable items.
