Five events in two months for SGC members

SIBU: Local golf ace Lee Ka Tung fired a 70 to lift the gross title of the New Year Special tournament held at Sibu Golf Course last weekend.

Finishing behind Lee were Abdul Latif on 75, Hu King Huo (76) and Wong Lay Nam with a 77.

The top four in the nett section were Winston Lau, Matthew Ha, Roland Ha and Tiong Siong Ming.

Peter Chiong was the senior champion finishing ahead of Chew Ching Hock, Ting King King and Haji Johar .

A total of 81 golfers gathered at Sibu Golf Club ( SGC) last weekend as they revel in the festive new year spirit to play in the first tournament for 2020.

“This golf tournament is being organised in the spirit of brotherhoo­d and to usher in the new year with a celebratio­n for all the golfers in Sibu,” the event sponsor Wong Pak Cheng said.

Wong, who is also SGC vice president, pledged that he would organise a similar tournament next year.

Meanwhile, SGC secretary Roland Ha announced two more tournament­s before the Chinese New Year, namely the 17th Swan Golf Fellowship Lunar New Year Special on Jan 17 and the 16th Lunar New Year Special on Jan 20.

Both are sponsored by Dato Wong Kuo Hea and Dato Sri Wong Ing Kee.

February will see another two events - the Chap Goh Mei Special on Feb 1 and John Wong Siong Sah Special on Feb 15.

“With so many interestin­g tournament­s coming up, golfers here are certainly in for a treat,” Ha said.
