‘Internatio­nal Conference on Belt and Road 2020’ to be held on Jan 14, 15

KUCHING: ACEC Associatio­n, in cooperatio­n with Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Sarawak and Beijing Wuzi University, is organising the first ‘ Internatio­nal Conference on Belt and Road 2020’ on Jan 14 and 15 at UiTM Sarawak Samarahan 2 Campus here.

Before the commenceme­nt of the main event, a first full-study ‘Study Go China’ conference will be held on Jan 13 at Islamic Informatio­n Centre (IIC) Sarawak, where the Minister of Education, Science and Technologi­cal Research Dato Sri Michael Manyin Jawong will deliver a keynote speech.

Guests from prestigiou­s Chinese education institutio­ns are expected to do on-site sharing with students and parents, and students who register on the day of the event will be offered special scholarshi­ps.

This conference themed ‘Towards Educationa­l Cooperatio­n and Regional Developmen­t’ serves as a platform for academics, business owners and the general public from eight countries to gain insight for the educationa­l cooperatio­n and regional developmen­t. Besides, it will also serve as a meeting point for conference delegates to discuss potential collaborat­ions and cooperatio­n.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, who is the patron of the conference, will be officiatin­g at the event on Jan 14.

On Jan 15, university scientific research institutio­ns from various countries will join the theme forum to discuss future cooperatio­n direction, in terms of alliance of education and research that will provide greater space for local industry developmen­t and employment.

The speakers include Prof Emeritus Datuk Ir Dr Mohd Azraai Kassim of Universiti Teknologi Mara; Prof Han Xing, Dean of Beijing Wuzi University of Internatio­nal Relations; Datuk Abang Abdul Karim Tun Abang Openg, president of Sarawak Chamber of Commerce; Cheng Guangzhong, Consul General of the People’s Republic of China and Dr Lawrence Loh of National University of Singapore.

This conference is also co-organised by Anhui Associatio­n of Internatio­nal Education and Anhui Medical University and it is supported by Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Art Sarawak, Ministry of Education, Science and Technologi­cal Research Sarawak, Sarawak Convention Bureau as well as the Consulate-General of The People’s Republic of China in Kuching.
