CNY celebration starts with heart of giving

-

KUCHING: It is wonderful to know there are some people out there generous and caring enough to give to the needy at this time when the Chinese are getting ready to welcome the Year of The Rat,

Poh Sze Lyn and her friends said the Chinese New Year is an opportunity for them to give to the underprivileged people. They donated more than RM2,000 worth of Chinese New Year goodies to Hope Place recently.

This is the third year this group of friends gave special Chinese New Year contributions to Hope Place.

Their contributions have made a difference in many needy families, including their little children.

The contributions were also extended to D’Wira Childcare Centre, a learning centre for poor children. It has more than 80 multi- racial students, aged four to 17 years.

This centre accepts children from poor families who are not able to send their children to school, and about 50 per cent of them do not have any MyKad.

The centre teaches basic subjects like Bahasa Malaysia, English and Mathematics.

Hope Place has been helping D’Wira since 2014, by providing them with nutritious breakfast and healthy snacks for the students’ break time. Most of the centre’s items and assets are sponsored by members of the public, like the two vans which they used to transport students to and from the school.

However the centre still lacks in classrooms equipment, books and stationery.

Hope Place thanked all donors for supporting and caring for the underprivileged people, and welcome more Chinese New Year donations from members of the public.

For more information, Hope Place can be reached at 082505987 on Monday till Friday (8.30am to 5.30pm) and on Saturday (8.30am – 12.30pm).
