Awas appeals to NRD to expedite approval of student’s MyKad application
SIBU: Angkatan Warisan Anak Sarawak (Awas) hopes the National Registration Department (NRD) and the state government can help to resolve issues pertaining to MyKad application of a secondary school student here.
Awas secretary Mohd Junaidi Sambang said that Jwen Varon Timong Jackie, 17, had been waiting five years for the NRD office here to resolve matters related to his MyKad application.
He said Jwen submitted his application on Feb 3, 2015 when he was 12.
“Every year until today, his foster father Jackie Giang would go to NRD Sibu branch to find out Jwen’s application status.
“Everytime he will get frustrated by the same answer given that the application is still being processed in Kuching and Putrajaya,” he said yesterday.
In desperation Jwen and Jackie sought Awas help to highlight the matter. Mohd Junaidi said that without MyKad, Jwen faced various difficulties especially in school.
“He was selected to represent the state in national hockey championship when he was 13.
“But he was dropped from the list because he did not have MyKad,” he said.
Jwen also cannot apply for driving licence. This year, he will sit for SPM and his father foresees he will have problems to further his studies or apply for job next year.
“For five years, they had to put up with bureaucracy procedures that makes it so hard for him to get his MyKAd .
“I hope NRD Sarawak and GPS can help to settle this as soon as possible,” Mohd Junaidi said.
