Do not expect to be paid for your votes — Tiong

-

SIBU: Voters in Dudong are advised not to expect any monetary reward in return for their votes in the upcoming state election.

Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) president Datuk Sri Tiong King Sing said such reward, if any, would be for short-term gain only. Instead, voters should vote honestly in helping their candidate win the election.

“When a candidate wins an election, he/she will be able to facilitate the development process in the area for long term benefit.

“If a candidate gives RM350, RM500 or RM1,000 to each voter to buy a vote, he is a cheater and this will affect the people’s future,” he said at the meetthe-people session at Rumah Nyundang Jalin, Batu Wong, Mile 13 KJD Road recently.

Tiong, who is also Bintulu MP, said voters should change their attitude if they really want a leader who could bring development to their constituency.

He also called on the newly appointed councillors to regularly review, consider issues and needs of the people and also to carry out their responsibilities well.

On other matter, Tiong said only Sarawakians could helm the Sarawak leadership.

He said the Sarawak government under Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) would make every effort to protect and defend Sarawak from outside elements trying to divide its people.

Tiong also urged Sarawakians to be wise in assessing the efforts and diligence of the Sarawak government in administering and developing the state, and not be easily influenced by irresponsible people.

At the event, Tiong announced a grant of RM30,000 under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) to upgrade the longhouse and RM5,000 to its Women Bureau.
