Flood: Upper Tinjar areas see drop in water level

MIRI: The flood situation in several low-lying areas, especially in upper Tinjar, improved yesterday, with most areas reporting a drop in water levels.

Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Miri chief Law Poh Kiong in a statement said flooding has begun to recede at SK Benawa, Long Jegan, Long Teran, Kuala Bok, Kuala Tutoh and Pengelayan.

At the same time, however, he said the water level at Long Tabing and Long Teru downriver saw an increase yesterday.

‘The water level at Rumah Kajan Sigeh Long Teru increased by two feet, but the situation remained under control.

“The school in the village, SK Long Teru, which was among 11 schools affected by flood, is still open despite the rising flood waters,” he said.

For SK Benawa, Law said it remained closed yesterday as the road leading to the school remained under water.

Meanwhile, the State Disaster Management Commi ee secretaria­t in a statement said 12 areas in Beluru and eight in Marudi were affected by flood yesterday.
