-

KUCHING: Parti Sarawak Bersatu ( PSB) president Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh will not be celebrating Chinese New Year this year because he and his family are still in the mourning period for his son Datuk Andrew Wong Kee Yew who died on Feb 10, 2019.

“As you know my family is still in the mourning period of my late son Datuk Andrew, so we are not celebrating Chinese New Year this year, neither are we receiving guests,” he told reporters when met at an informal meet-the-media session at Saradise here yesterday.

He said he even had to decline a visit by Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud who is scheduled to visit him on Jan 28 or fourth day of Chinese New Year.

“TYT (Taib) wanted to visit me on the fourth day of Chinese New Year. I have communicated with him, I said sorry, we are not celebrating because we are still in the mourning period,” Wong said.

Nonetheless, he said he had been actively going down to the ground in rural areas of Sarawak, doing work for his party in Dayak areas.

“I have not seen you (media) for a while because I have been out of the state government in a way, out of cabinet since Aug 25, 2019.

“I resigned from the cabinet on that day as the Minister of Finance II and Minister of International Trade and Ecommerce.

“Since then I do not get many chances of seeing you all because I’m not in the limelight, but I’m on the move mostly in the rural areas in the Dayak-based areas because PSB is moving into the rural areas throughout Sarawak.

“Of course we also maintain our presence in the urban areas.

“We hope in the coming election we will work hard so that we can be a force to be reckoned with,” said Wong.
